The Founder – Bob ‘Tug’ Wilson

"I have lived a good life, theirs is just beginning".

Now in its 17th year, the Walk for Kids with Cancer was founded by the late Bob ‘Tug’ Wilson who was determined to create change for the “young ones,” after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Originally held from Coolangatta to Canberra - the inaugural 1000km voyage in May 2008, took 34 days to complete and raised $74,128.39 for sick kids.

Unfortunately, Bob ‘Tug’ passed away just three weeks before the walk commenced, but his family and loving wife, Carol, honoured his wish for the walk to go ahead.

Carol and their grandchildren have attended the walk every year since in his memory.

While Bob may no longer be with us, his mantra “I have lived a good life, theirs is just beginning” continues to ring true for many of our participants.

To date, Bob’s legacy has raised over $2M for the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
