Getting to the start line
We suggest you pre plan your trip to ensure you get to your start line on time. If you are planning to catch public transport, you can check for any travel alerts on the Transport NSW website.
If you are planning to drive and park nearby to the start line, make sure you check for any restrictions in place, including parking station opening and closing times.
24km Start Line: Hickson Rd Reserve
The closest parking station is the Clocktower Carpark (Wilson’s Parking) at 65 Harrington St, The Rocks. It is only a short walk to the start line but please note it opens at 6.00am.
10km Start Line: Middle Head
There is some paid parking available in designated carparks at Middle Head.
Alternatively, the following public transport options are available;
Bus: Bus 100 departs from Wynyard Station regularly. Change at Military Road bus 111 and disembark at Balmoral Naval Hospital. Allow travel time of approximately 30 minutes.
Ferry: From Circular Quay take the ferry to Mosman Bay. From here take bus and disembark at Balmoral Naval Hospital. Allow travel time of approximately 3 minutes. *Please note, ferries begin running from 9am.
Start times
Your start time and location will be confirmed prior to event day. It is important to stick to your chosen start time to help avoid congestion on the course.
Bib collection
Please arrive to your designated start line 30 minutes before your start time to allow enough time to check in and collect your bib (and to get a coffee from the onsite coffee van).
You must collect your bib on event day at your respective start line.
What to bring
Your official Walk for Kids with Cancer t-shirt. Please note, shirts will be available to purchase from both start lines at a cost of $50. EFTPOS payments only.
- Water bottle – to be filled up at the water stations along the way
- Sunscreen
- Spare pair of socks
- Cash or card to purchase food at the food truck at the finish line.
During the walk
There will be medics available for the duration of the walk. Should you need any first aid assistance please call: Event Control Centre on 1800 770 122. Save this number in your phone NOW so it’s ready to go should you or anyone around you need it. In the case of an emergency, please call 000.
Checkpoints
There will be refreshment stations located at each checkpoint along the walk. These are located at;
- Reid Park, Mosman
- Middle Head (also 10km start line)
- Clontarf Reserve
- Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights (finish line)
Please use these stations to fill your water bottles and have a bite to eat from the fruit and snacks provided. There will also be bins available at the refreshment stations to dispose of any rubbish.
We anticipate it will take approximately three to four hours to complete the 10km walk and six to seven hours to complete the 24km walk. Please remember, it’s a walk, not a race! Pace yourself and enjoy Sydney’s best harbour views. *Please note, due to the great number of stairs and the nature of this type of walk there will be no prams, strollers or furry friends allowed.
IMPORTANT- If you decide not to finish the event for any reason, please call the Event Control Centre on 1800 770 122 so we don’t send a search party out for you.
After the event
We can’t wait to cheer you across the finish line at Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights!
We’ll have a goodie bag for you to thank you for your efforts and there’ll be a food truck available for you to purchase a bite to eat before making your way home.
Transport options from the finish line:
A shuttle service will be provided from Tania park, running to Manly Ferry Wharf Terminal. The shuttle leaves approximately every 30 minutes from 12pm to 4pm. This service will cost $5 per passenger. Trailblazers will be able to travel for free on this service.
If taking public transport/ walking the best option is to get to Manly Wharf where you can then take a ferry into the city to connecting transport.
Bus: Bus 162 departs every hour from Curban St (8 min walk from Tania Park) to Manly Wharf.
Walk: Manly Wharf is a scenic 3.6km walk from Tania Park.
Pick Up: Taxis, ride share and private vehicles are able to access Tania Park. Parking is available around the park and surrounding streets.
