Walk for Kids with Cancer

My beloved grandson Jesse

Hi my dear family and friends.

Another year has passed and I still  miss my little Jesse as if it were yesterday.

I vividly remember every moment of his little short life.

He would be turning 7 in June ... isn't that amazing. I have loved him every day for almost 7 years.

I often wonder what he would be like ... a soccer fanatic like his big brother ??? ... a groover like his little brother ???? or would he bring his own style to the family.

We will never know ... he went to heaven as a little baby, forever young.

This is our 7th year supporting this walk and collectively, as a family, and with our many friends who constantly support us we have raised $74,408. We are so proud of that.

Our little Jesseboy ran out of time. We desperately waited for that magic cure but it didn't arrive. We always hope the funds we raise may help another little baby live and other families do not have to endure what we did.

Jesse was in hospital at Randwick and even now, almost 7 years later, we cannot thank all the beautiful dedicated people who cared for him during that time enough. We will be forever grateful for their love and care. They are all champions.

As most of you know .... this old nanny can't do the whole walk in one go ... so I will start soon, bit by bit, I'll keep you posted.

Bravo CHAMPION TEAM

Sunday 23rd Mar
BRAVO to our TEAM ... take a bow! What CHAMPIONS.
The team met at 6.30am at The Rocks and off they went.
19 beautiful selfless humans doing something kind for others.
The weather was not too hot!! A bonus.
The TEAM spread out to suit their ability but Tim and Aaron absolutely smashed it ... completing the entire walk in 4 hours. I can't even comprehend how they did that. They almost beat us and we drove !!!!
We also SMASHED our fundraising ... THANK YOU.
So far our team has raised $12031 ... that is AMAZING.
I personally have raised $5524 (included in above) and I am blown away by your never ending support and generosity. I don't have enough words to show how much that warms my heart. Little Jesse Boy is giving you all a big round of applause.
Big hug from Kris xxxx

The Spit to Manly - FINISHED !

Wednesday 5th Mar
Hi Team Jesse Boy and our fabulous cheer squad,
This old nanny has FINISHED! I'm so happy about that!
Up early ... 5am ... pouring rain!
Check the weather ... sunny all day ... mmmmm
On Ashfield station 5.40am ... pouring rain!
Check the weather ... sunny all day ... mmmmmm
Now I am seriously doubting my sanity but off I go ... no turning back now.
When I get off the bus at The Spit - brilliant, blinding sunshine (AND the humidity that comes with it!) .... just what I don't need!
Initially the early morning in the bush was peaceful and beautiful and I was OK with this now very familiar walk.... It was a slow journey and I felt every step (speaking of steps / stairs aaaargh .. they haven't gotten any better.)
I think it took me an hour to do the last 2km ... I couldn't wait to finish. The walk officially finishes at Balgowlah now but logistically that doesn't work for us .... TEAM JESSE BOY walks on to Manly.... and the ferry ride back is a treat.
Anyway ... I MADE IT ... I'm proud... these little short legs and old, old knees that don't want to bend anymore got me there!
Why do I do it????? For LOVE.
For my beloved Grandson Jesse who passed away with Cancer ... he was almost seven months old ... and for my beautiful Granddaughter Eva, who was born still two days before Jesse died. I do it for them, to keep their memory alive. They never got the opportunity to walk to Manly. Forever LOVED.
That's all folks ... thank you for supporting me and thank you for supporting TEAM JESSE BOY.

Zoo to The Spit - TICK

Friday 21st Feb
Hi Team Jesse Boy and all our fabulous cheer squad
Yay .... Zoo to the Spit done!!
The day wasn't as cool as I had hoped but once you start you get what you get !!!
Caught the 6.50am ferry to the zoo and off I went. Slow, slow, slow as usual. It was a very quiet start ... no one in sight for a long time. I could hear the animals in the zoo calling for their breakfast! That was pretty exciting.
It's amazing how familiar each step of the walk is .... I visualize all the hills and stairs in advance.  I remember them ALL !!
My new mind set is working. I just take my time and have lots of rest stops ... LOTS!!  The land of the giant steps is still real !!!! These little short legs have to make a big effort to get up them at times!! .... BUT .... I made it! All in the name of my little Jesse Boy.
OK ... One to go ... The Spit to Manly.

Today was the day!

Sunday 16th Feb
Hi everyone
I have been watching the weather hoping for a 'cooler' day and today was the day! After my little heat stroke episode last year I didn't want a repeat of that! Up at 5am and I reached Circular Quay about 6.15am ... starting my walk to the zoo! The weather was perfect with a lovely breeze most of the way. I had LOTS of rest stops but I used that time to really embrace the glorious views of our beautiful city ...WOW it is beautiful! All those memories came flooding back with every step ... those damn stairs and hills are still there!!! I was a bit nervous as I haven't walked for a few months after suffering from Plantar Fasciitis ...OMG ... that's another story!! ... but I do it for my beloved little Jesse. It's an opportunity to remember how gorgeous he was ... to remember what he had to endure in his little short life ... so Nanny will drag her old body to Manly no matter what !!!!
The worst is yet to come ... the land of the GIANT steps is waiting for me!!!!!! I'll keep you posted!
